Enjoy our website or visit one of our two chocolate factory/sales facilities in Western Australia's Margaret River and Swan Valley wine regions. The Margaret River Chocolate Company began from an innovative idea developed by two friends with no experience in chocolate, retailing or tourism.
Initially conceived over Easter 1998, the company's first factory in Margaret River took 12 months to become a reality and from its opening in late May 1999 was an immediate hit with locals and tourists alike.
A second factory was then opened in Perth's historic Swan Valley in December 2000.
The Margaret River Chocolate Company has been the subject of dozens of local, national and international television and documentary features, has been featured extensively in local, national and international newspapers and magazines and has become a driving force in the West Australian tourism industry.
The Margaret River Chocolate Company's own special blend of fine European-style chocolate is developed and tempered from some of the finest raw ingredients in the world.
We source "raw chocolate" called couveture (a mixture of the cacao products, sugar and, in some cases, milk powder) from the world's finest cacao houses and then blend and temper it to create our own distinctive flavour, texture and style.
The process of blending and tempering involves changing the physical structure of the raw chocolate through rapid heating and cooling - bringing out the flavours, textures and aromas in much the same way as coffee blending and roasting.
The art of blending and tempering is what distinguishes fine chocolate and has been practised for over 100 years by the finest chocolatiers in the world.
Once blended and tempered, the chocolate is then ready to create an array of wonderful products, from traditional bars and moulded shapes, through to delightful European-style handmade truffles and fudges.
We have created our own unique recipes for many of the truffle and coated product fillings, while centres like licorice and ginger are sourced from leading specialist manufacturers within Australia.
